The greyhound racing industry is incapable of reform.

The greyhound racing industry is founded on the exploitation and ‘wastage’ of these gentle dogs. In NSW, the Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission (GWIC) was established as an independent regulator to protect the welfare of the greyhounds, and oversee the integrity of the NSW greyhound racing industry. One of their functions includes overseeing compliance, enforcement, investigations and disciplinary actions involving NSW Greyhound Racing NSW (GRNSW) participants and issues within the industry. Animal Liberation has continued to monitor GWIC’s Final Disciplinary Action Decisions, and despite GWIC’s presence as a regulator, the industry continues to demonstrate that it is incapable of reform and has a deep-rooted culture entrenched in the suffering and cruelty of racing greyhounds who are confined, conditioned and commodified for gambling profits.

NSW greyhound industry’s own regulator records 167 charges between January to the end of October, 2024.

What are the Final Disciplinary Action Decisions? Final Disciplinary Action Decisions refer to the ultimate judgments, sanctions, and penalties imposed by GWIC on greyhound racing NSW participants that have been found to breach the rules, regulations, or ethical standards that apply to greyhound welfare or racing integrity.

These decisions can encompass a range of disciplinary measures, including but not limited to warnings, fines, suspensions, or lifetime bans from participating in any greyhound-related activities.
