Demand urgent action from the NT Government

The Northern Territory (‘NT’) Government is ‘seeking’ to ignore serious animal welfare concerns and deflect from Animal Liberation’s ongoing requests for professional engagement about our Australian-first ‘Breaking the camel's back' exposé.

We have endeavoured to seek professional engagement with the NT Chief Minister and responsible Ministers for progressive reform within the NT animal welfare and tourism arenas, but we have been largely ignored. The responses to Animal Liberation from, and the lack of intervention by the NT Government have been both disappointing and unacceptable, and we know you will agree.

Animal Liberation's Australian-first exposé ‘Breaking the Camel's Back’ shows wild camels captured, roughly handled, psychologically ‘broken’, and forced into servitude by Uluru Camel Tours, a popular tourism operator in the Northern Territory. Our in-depth investigation highlights some of the issues inherent in animal-based tourism, as well as the lack of animal welfare regulation and oversight within the industry.

TRIGGER WARNING: this footage includes graphic and potentially distressing material.

How you can demand action for the Uluru camels

To make this easy, we have prepared a direct letter email for you to send to the responsible NT Government members of parliament. Our email template is flexible and can be tailored and personalised. Anyone can send an email, you do not need to reside in the NT to express your concerns and urgent call to action.

With an election scheduled in the NT for 24 August 2024, we’ve never had a better opportunity to raise our collective voices to demand urgent action.

While the Uluru camels continue to wait for compassionate and urgent intervention, the NT Government and NT Tourism have continued to promote their ‘Seek Different’ tourism and brand awareness campaign, paid for with millions of dollars of public funds. The advertising campaign features a promotional video showcasing camel rides, and what appears to be an Uluru Camel Tours ride.
